about the un food systems summiT

Food systems are a key solution to tackle the most critical challenges of our time. Sustainable food systems can help us curb climate change, protect biodiversity, reduce poverty, ensure food security, support covid recovery, and improve human health, to name a few.

Yet today’s food systems are not fit for purpose. Global hunger and malnutrition are on the rise and the way food is produced and consumed globally comes with severe environmental degradation, social inequality, and a cost of $12 trillion dollars a year to the global economy.

There is a clear imperative for change.

Taking place in New York, September 2021, the United Nations Food Systems Summit aims to launch bold new actions to transform the way the world produces and consumes food to deliver on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Summit will bring together key players from the worlds of science, business, policy, healthcare and academia, as well as farmers, indigenous people, youth organizations, consumer groups, environmental activists and other key stakeholders.
